Ladies I know you will agree with me on this one. Being a female in a male dominant world is challenging. Especially when it comes to sports! Even though we do not compete against the guys. We want to receive the same praise, fame appreciation as they do. Because we have the same passion and love for the game.
NCAA Divisions I and II schools fund more than $2.7 billion in athletic scholarships yearly to more than 150,000 student-athletes. These full scholarships help college athletes pay their tuition, books, room and board. When it comes to competing on the college level, it is difficult for women to receive full-ride scholarships.
There are only 4 sports women have a good chance to receive full ride scholarships in:
1) Basketball
2) Volleyball
3) Tennis
4) Gymnastics
NCAA statistics show that in Women's Basketball only 3.9% of high school young women actually continue on the play ball in college. This is mainly due to the lack of full ride scholarships available for female student athletes. Often female high school coaches do not encourage their players to compete on the collegiate level. Unless they are a phenomenal athlete. Because there is such a limited amount of sports scholarships for female athletes that they think its best to direct the ladies to the academic scholarships instead. Also, collegiate sports are a money game. The team that has the most fan support brings in the most money. For the Division I schools this means television exposure, money generated from sponsorship and commercial deals. So ladies my question is to you. We have just as much skill, drive, passion and competitive spirit as the guys.
Do you think that we will ever get a fair shot in the collegiate scholarship arena?
