The Incredible Candace Parker can finally call herself a WNBA champion. She has countless accomplishments under her belt from the Naismith College Player of the Year to two WNBA MVP awards. But becoming a champion is definitely a dream come true for Candace.
Last year, Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks had a tough loss in Game 3 versus the Minnesota Lynx. She did not allow the setback to affect her performance as a player. Candace turned the lost into a positive. She took a step back and put everything in perspective. She even became closer with her teammates as they got prepared for the upcoming season. Her teammate Kristi Toliver saw a change in Parker. Toliver explained that Candace is more humble and mature on the court. Candace developed into a true team player. Yes she was named WNBA MVP twice but she did not do it by herself!
During her self-evaluation period, she also dealt with the loss of her old coach Pat Summitt. Summitt was not just her college coach but Parker's mentor. Pat was there for Candace as she matured into the player she is today. She still listens to Pat's speeches before her games. Her loss caused Parker to put her pain into her game. Candace even wore orange shoes to show her love for her former coach.
At the end of the game, Candace dedicated her WNBA Championship to her beloved coach, Pat Summitt. Everyone realized that the wound from Pat's death was still healing. The WNBA star broke down and pointed to the sky and said, "This is for Pat."
